This is the image for the news article titled AHS Freshman Receives All-State HonorsThe Association of Texas Small School Bands is pleased to announce the selection of the 2019 ATSSB All-State Band. More than 10,000 high school band students from across Texas auditioned in 22 different regions for a place in their respective All-Region Bands. The top chairs in each region advanced to one of the five area auditions held on January 12, 2019 across the state and only 280 of these 2,288 students were selected for All-State honors.

The ATSSB All-State Bands will meet in rehearsals in San Antonio, TX, February 13 – 16 and will present a concert beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16th, 2019, in the Lila Cockrell Theatre of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in downtown San Antonio.

Dennis Johnson, Murray State University (Kentucky), will be the clinician-conductor of the All-State Concert Band. Dr. Cody Birdwell, University of Kentucky, will be the clinician-conductor of the All-State Symphonic Band which will premier Springerle by Jack Stamp (commissioned by ATSSB). Chris Bruya, Central Washington University, will be the clinician-conductor of the ATSSB All-State Jazz Ensemble which will perform at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019, in the Convention Center Henisfair Ballroom 1.

Ellie Wolfe, member of the Anna High School Band, was selected as a member of the ATSSB All-State Symphonic Band. She was chosen for this honor in competitive auditions held this year across the state at region and area levels. Ellie plays the clarinet at school under the director of Justin Wallis, who is a member of the Association of Texas Small School Bands, a 1175-member group of band directors in classes 1A – 4A high schools in Texas. This is her first time to perform as a member of the ATSSB All-State Symphonic Band. Her other interests in school include FFA. She is the daughter of Dean and Julie Wolfe in Anna, TX.

Director of Bands, Justin Wallis, commented “We are SO proud of all the hard work and dedication Ellie has poured into her craft. She has accomplished something VERY few students have ever accomplished, and she is only a FRESHMAN! We cannot wait to watch her continue to blossom as a musician over the next three years! Hard work pays off!”
